2.96 MILLION SENIOR CITIZENS ENJOY SOCIAL PENSION ASSISTANCE, ACCORDING TO DSWD

Up to 2.96 million indigent senior citizens nationwide have received their social pension for the first two quarters of the year, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The pension, increased to P1,000 per month under Republic Act 11916, aims to help frail, sick, and disabled seniors who do not receive other government pensions.

As of May 31, over 2.2 million seniors received P3,000 for the first quarter, while around 751,000 received P6,000 covering both quarters.

The DSWD, with help from local government units, continues to ensure timely distribution to support seniors’ basic needs.

In addition, the government has allocated P5.18 billion for a supplemental feeding program benefiting 1.5 million children nationwide, with increased meal budgets and plans to expand aid for persons with disabilities.
