Wilberto Rico Neil Kwan Tiu has been named officer-in-charge of the Bureau of Fire Protection, succeeding Director Jesus Fernandez, who was placed under preventive suspension by the Ombudsman over alleged corruption.
Fernandez faces charges of violating the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, direct bribery, and malversation linked to a P14.7 million kickback from the procurement of 132 ambulances in 2024.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto confirmed Tiu’s appointment, which aims to ensure uninterrupted public service until President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. designates a permanent replacement.
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla vowed to pursue accountability and transparency in the alleged misuse of public funds.
Tiu’s leadership begins amid ongoing investigations into BFP procurement irregularities and corruption allegations.
