On Thursday, Vice President Sara Duterte announced she is no longer interested in serving in President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Cabinet or participating in the 2025 election campaigns for either Marcos or her father’s senatorial slates.
revealed that Marcos had invited her to assist in fielding candidates for the midterms, but she declined, stating she needs to determine her own political direction.
She also turned down a request from her father to campaign for his party’s candidates. Duterte mentioned plans to meet with Sens. Bong Go and Ronald dela Rosa for a discussion after Marcos’ State of the Nation Address.
Her decision is significant due to her political influence and the success of her regional party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago, in previous elections.
