The University of Santo Tomas (UST) claimed the UAAP Season 87 women’s fencing title with a 45-40 victory over the University of the East (UE) in the sabre final, securing the overall win after both teams were tied with two golds each.
UE had earlier won the epee final, but UST’s victory in sabre, led by MVP Jannah Catantan, clinched the championship.
Catantan expressed her joy and relief, noting the strong support from her teammates and the team’s fighting spirit.
UST also earned three silver medals and a bronze, while UE, which aimed for a fourth consecutive women’s title, finished with two golds, two silvers, and two bronzes.
In the men’s, boys’, and girls’ divisions, UE maintained dominance, retaining its titles with standout performances from Nicollei Felipe, James Lim, and Opao Catantan.
