Senate Resolution 409 criticizes Beijing for harassment of Philippine vessels, including recent incidents at Sandy Cay and Scarborough Shoal.
The measure calls on the U.S. government to counter Chinese escalation and strengthen defense cooperation with the Philippines and other regional allies.
It also reaffirms that the MDT covers attacks on Philippine forces anywhere in the South China Sea.
