The US State Department has approved the potential sale of 20 F-16 fighter jets to the Philippines for $5.58 billion, aimed at enhancing the country’s defense capabilities.
The package includes 16 F-16C Block 70/72 jets and four F-16B Block 70/72 fighters, along with various munitions and equipment.
While the Philippine military has not confirmed the deal, it would significantly improve the Philippine Air Force’s capabilities in maritime domain awareness and air defense.
The sale is expected to strengthen US-Philippine defense ties and help safeguard the region’s political stability and security.
The proposal is still subject to a 30-day review period by the US Congress, though such blocks are rare.
