US AND PHILIPPINE OFFICIALS MEET TO DISCUSS AFP ENHANCEMENT AND INTELLIGENCE COLLABORATION

Philippine defense officials and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Laura Updegrove discussed upgrading the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and finalizing an intelligence-sharing agreement by year-end.

The talks included the implementation of the Philippines-Security Assistance Roadmap to enhance the AFP and Philippine Coast Guard’s capabilities.

The General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA) will enable real-time classified intelligence exchange between the two nations.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the Philippines-US alliance and aligning defense priorities.

Further discussions will occur at the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting-Plus in Laos next month.
