Former senator Sonny Trillanes is aiming to replicate Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto’s success in Caloocan City by challenging the local political dynasty.
At his campaign rally on March 28, Trillanes promised a “Bagong Kalookan” (New Caloocan) as part of his platform, drawing a large crowd.
He criticized the long-standing Malapitan family’s rule, comparing it to the Eusebio family’s dominance in Pasig before Mayor Sotto ousted them in 2019, citing poor governance and vote-buying.
Trillanes is running against incumbent Mayor Along Malapitan, who inherited the post from his father, Rep. Oscar Malapitan, and has vowed to “paint the town blue,” signaling a shift from the Malapitan family’s signature orange.
Trillanes, supported by Sen. Risa Hontiveros, is running with his local slate, “Team Trillanes,” to bring new leadership to the city.
