Former Negros Oriental congressman Arnolfo Teves Jr. will remain in the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) detention facility in Manila while awaiting a court order for his arraignment, the Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed.
Teves faces multiple criminal charges, including allegations of orchestrating the 2023 assassination of Gov. Roel Degamo.
The DOJ is considering consolidating the cases in Metro Manila to streamline proceedings and address security concerns, though no formal motion has been filed.
Justice officials said only government prosecutors can initiate such consolidation, and video conferencing may be used if court appearances pose risks.
Meanwhile, Teves’ lawyers expressed concern over reported attempts to transfer him from the NBI’s high-security facility.
