The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported positive literacy gains among learners in its Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program, based on a Department of Education assessment during the 2025 rollout.
A total of 45,794 incoming Grade 2 students from 2,295 elementary schools were evaluated out of 55,932 enrolled.
Results showed 72.39% met expectations in Filipino literacy, while 70.08% did so in English, with many students improving from lower proficiency levels.
Retention rates were also high, with over 93% maintaining proficiency in Filipino and 95% in English.
DSWD officials said the program’s effectiveness will be strengthened with targeted interventions to support learners who still need assistance.
