Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto reaffirmed that the city’s barangay aid program will continue to promote efficiency and curb patronage politics.
Under the program, launched in 2019, smaller barangays receive ₱4 million annually, while bigger ones get ₱6 million, aside from their national tax allotments and property tax shares.
Sotto said the initiative allows barangays to address residents’ needs directly, such as small infrastructure projects and urgent repairs, without depending on city or national government intervention.
He acknowledged the political challenges in implementing the reform but stressed that it helps break the cycle of corruption tied to patronage politics.
To ensure transparency, the funds remain subject to Commission on Audit regulations, with special city audits and full disclosure of the 2024 utilization report.
