SENATORS RAISE ALARM OVER ‘ACTING’ APPOINTMENTS

The Commission on Appointments will seek clarification from Malacañang on the increasing number of Cabinet officials serving in acting capacities, amid concerns that the practice may bypass the confirmation process.

CA chair Vicente Sotto III said the body would raise the issue with the executive, while senators,s including Imee Marco,s warned that prolonged acting appointments could undermine constitutional safeguards.

Lawmakers emphasized that while temporary designations are allowed, overuse may weaken the Commission’s oversight role.

Meanwhile, the CA confirmed 57 officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, even as discussions continue on procedural and policy issues.

The Senate is set to adjourn for the Holy Week break and resume sessions in May.
