Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri has urged President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to send China’s ambassador home, citing inaction amidst multiple incidents where Chinese ships fired water cannons at Philippine vessels.
In a statement, Zubiri expressed his disappointment, stating that the current Chinese Ambassador has not taken any action to address the ongoing attacks by the Chinese government on Philippine troops and the people.
The Philippine Coast Guard reported that a commissioned vessel on a resupply mission to Ayungin Shoal suffered “serious engine damage” after being targeted by water cannons from the China Coast Guard.
On a separate occasion, Chinese ships repeatedly fired water cannons at Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources vessels during a humanitarian mission to provide aid to Filipino fishermen near Bajo de Masinloc.
Zubiri strongly criticized the Chinese, accusing them of lacking compassion for their actions against the BFAR ships. He highlighted the escalation from unlawfully blocking Philippine waters to deliberately damaging vessels and endangering lives.
Numerous lawmakers and foreign envoys, alongside Zubiri, have condemned China’s aggressive actions in the West Philippine Sea.
