Pope Leo XIV has elevated the Archdiocesan Shrine and Parish of Santo Niño de Tondo in Manila to the status of a minor basilica, making it the 29th in the Philippines.
The 16th-century church received the official decree from the Holy See, a milestone in its centuries-long history.
Church officials described the elevation as a meaningful moment, marking an important step in its journey toward the new title.
The designation recognizes the parish’s historical, spiritual, and cultural significance in Manila and the country.
Parishioners and the local Catholic community are expected to celebrate the recognition with special liturgical events.
