SAN JUAN MAYOR ADDRESSES POLITICAL CONCERNS OVER NEW DONATION ORDINANCE

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora defended a new ordinance requiring all disaster donations to be processed through the Office of the Mayor, stating it aims to ensure organized and safe distribution.

The ordinance has faced criticism from Senator JV Ejercito and Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada, who labeled it as “unjust” and a misuse of power.

Zamora clarified that the ordinance, which includes a P5,000 penalty for violators, is intended to prevent the distribution of spoiled or unsafe goods and to protect the welfare of evacuees.

He emphasized that coordinating with the local government is crucial for maintaining order and safety, not for political reasons.

Zamora also noted that even high-profile figures, such as House Speaker Martin Romualdez, had to comply with the permit requirements for their relief efforts.
