Speaker Martin Romualdez pledged continued congressional support for solar-powered irrigation projects during the turnover of more than 20 systems to farmers in Central Luzon.
The Maunlad na Candating–Sapang Paitan Solar-Powered Pump Irrigation Project in Pampanga will irrigate 15 hectares of farmland and is part of a larger rollout across five provinces.
The systems use typhoon-resistant solar panels and AI-driven moisture sensors, helping farmers save up to PHP30,000 per cropping season compared to diesel pumps.
Farmers praised the technology for reducing reliance on expensive fuel and increasing productivity, with plans to expand solar irrigation to 180,000 hectares nationwide.
Romualdez credited President Marcos Jr. for supporting this initiative, aiming to boost rice production and help the Philippines become a rice exporter again.
