Eleven House lawmakers, led by Speaker Martin Romualdez, denied allegations of receiving bribes from contractors for flood control projects, vowing to pursue legal action against accusers.
Contractor Curlee Discaya and his wife, Sara, had earlier testified before the Senate Blue Ribbon committee, naming Romualdez and other legislators in the alleged kickback scheme.
Romualdez strongly rejected the claims, calling them “false and malicious,” while stressing that Congress only debates budgets and does not release or implement project funds.
Other lawmakers, including Zaldy Co., Arjo Atayde, Patrick Michael Vargas, Roman Romulo, and Marcy Teodoro, also issued categorical denials, branding the accusations as baseless and politically motivated.
Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto warned that the Discayas may be lying, while Romualdez criticized the Senate hearing as unfair and reliant on unverified claims.
