Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte was honored with the “Innovative Changemaker” award by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on October 31, during the Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week in the National Capital Region. Belmonte expressed her appreciation for hosting the event in her city, emphasizing Quezon City’s continued collaboration with DOST to drive progress in science and technology.

The celebration also marked the 20th anniversary of DOST-NCR, recognizing notable achievements like the CEST Award for Barangay Payatas and the GRIND Award for the New Greenland Farmer’s Cooperative, both champions of urban farming initiatives.

As the election season approaches, the Quezon City government issued a reminder to the public and officials about responsible display of political materials. Mayor Belmonte stressed the importance of adhering to local laws, ensuring that political banners and tarpaulins are displayed only in designated areas. Following City Ordinance No. SP-2021 S-2010, political materials are restricted to Comelec-approved posting zones and prohibited on public infrastructure such as Meralco poles, street signs, and bridges.

The ordinance aims to maintain the city’s aesthetic while allowing for orderly political expression, with designated posting areas available in each barangay, as well as additional spaces like plazas and markets, pending Comelec approval.
