Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Patrick Gregorio plans to establish regional training centers to boost grassroots sports development and promote inclusivity in remote provinces.
Speaking at the 2025 World Games, he emphasized the importance of allowing young athletes to train without leaving their families.
The Office of the President has already issued a directive to set up these centers, with locations including Laoag, Clark, Tayabas, Ormoc, Bacolod, and key cities in Mindanao.
Each center will focus on sports that align with the local community’s strengths, such as weightlifting in Zamboanga and football in Bacolod.
The PSC will soon sign a memorandum with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority to designate New Clark City as a regional sports hub, complementing the National Academy of Sports located there.
