PROPERTIES IN CALIFORNIA TIED TO CONTROVERSIAL DPWH CONTRACTOR

At least four luxury properties in Southern California worth an estimated ₱260 million have been linked to Alex Abelido, president of Legacy Construction Corporation, a top contractor in the flood control projects under investigation in the Philippines.

Records show the acquisitions happened between 2018 and 2024, coinciding with the firm securing billions in government contracts under former President Rodrigo Duterte and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The Department of Justice has issued an immigration lookout bulletin against Abelido, his brother Raymund, and dozens of DPWH officials and contractors allegedly tied to anomalous projects.

U.S. corporate filings list Abelido as CEO or manager of multiple real estate companies connected to the properties, while public records reveal at least 19 California-based entities linked to him.

Marcos earlier disclosed that several Legacy projects were incomplete or nonexistent, heightening scrutiny of the contractor’s dealings.
