The PRISAA National Games kicked off Monday at the Cagayan Sports Complex, with 19 gold medals at stake on Day 1 of the athletics competition.
Events include sprints, hurdles, shot put, long jump, and the 5,000-meter races across various age categories.
Other sports such as basketball, softball, swimming, and tennis also began, alongside competitions in over 20 other disciplines.
The opening ceremony featured a torch relay led by Olympian and Cagayan native Lerma Elmira Bulauitan-Gabito, with PRISAA national president Ester Susan Perez-Mari lighting the ceremonial urn.
Over 8,000 participants from 17 regions are taking part in this year’s Games, which aim to foster grassroots sports and develop future Olympians.
