A recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey reveals that Filipinos rating their families as poor has reached a 16-year high, with 58% of respondents classifying themselves as poor.
This figure, up from 46% in March, is the highest since June 2008. The survey estimates that approximately 16 million Filipinos were poor in June 2024, up from 12.9 million in March.
The survey also found self-rated food poverty at 46%, the highest since 2008, with the highest rates reported in Mindanao.
Despite this, the percentage of those rating their families as “not poor” rose to 30%, a record high.
