In his third State of the Nation Address, President Ferdinand Marcos announced an immediate ban on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), citing their “grave abuse and disrespect” for Philippine laws.
Marcos instructed the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) to shut down POGO operations by the end of the year and promised job support for displaced workers.
The ban was met with widespread applause and support from lawmakers, who applauded the President’s action against criminal activities associated with POGOs.
Critics, however, urged careful management to avoid unintended consequences for the broader internet gaming sector.
The decision reflects ongoing public demand for stricter regulation and highlights the administration’s commitment to addressing serious criminal issues linked to POGOs.
