The Philippine National Police (PNP) is reopening its investigation into the 2018 murder of former Tanauan City Mayor Antonio Halili, following claims by retired police colonel Royina Garma that a police official was involved in the killing.
PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo announced that the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) is reviewing the case and assessing previous leads.
Garma alleged that Major Albotra of Region 7 was part of a team that included a sniper responsible for Halili’s death during a public event.
Additionally, the CIDG plans to file criminal complaints against Garma and former National Police Commission Commissioner Edilberto Leonardo regarding the 2020 killing of PCSO board secretary Wesley Barayuga, based on new testimonies.
Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III is also advocating for a Senate inquiry into the drug war led by former President Rodrigo Duterte to investigate the allegations further.
