The Philippine National Police has deployed officers to Cambodia to verify reports that fugitive businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang has fled there, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said.
Ang is wanted for the alleged kidnapping and killing of more than 100 sabungeros, with information on his possible escape provided by whistleblower and former associate Julie Patidongan.
Remulla said authorities are also considering Thailand as a possible destination and noted that raids on 18 properties allegedly owned by Ang failed to locate him.
He added that Ang may have left the country through backdoor routes and could be using vast gambling earnings to evade arrest and bribe contacts.
Remulla estimated Ang may have as much as P10 billion in cash, making his capture more challenging.
