Philippine men’s football team head coach Carles Cuadrat expressed confidence that his youthful squad can open its ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026 Group B campaign with a victory against Myanmar at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium in Capas, Tarlac.
Although the Philippines defeated Myanmar 5-1 in a June friendly, Cuadrat said the upcoming match will be different because Myanmar have changed under new coach Jorn Andersen.
The Spanish coach noted that the current squad is one of the youngest he has handled, with only two players over 30 years old.
Myanmar enter the match after a 2-1 loss to Malaysia and a demanding trip from Yangon, but Andersen said his team will fight hard despite the difficult circumstances.
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. as the Philippines seek a strong start in their bid for a historic first appearance in the tournament final.
