Jiu-jitsu is rapidly gaining popularity globally, with Steve Shimizu, President of the Marianas Open International, praising the sport’s growth in both Guam and the Philippines.
Shimizu, who attended the Marianas Pro Manila tournament in Alabang, noted that Filipino jiu-jitsu athletes are known for their toughness and exceptional skill.
He expressed admiration for the Filipino athletes, stating that their reputation for being tactically skilled is well-earned.
Shimizu also highlighted the successful organization of the tournament by the Asian Sport Jiu-Jitsu Federation, led by Alvin Lee and Edison Kagohara.
Looking ahead, Shimizu is hopeful that more Filipino athletes will compete in upcoming events like the Marianas Pro Taiwan and Marianas Open International in Guam.
