The Manila Times and other major Philippine media outlets were invited to Jinan University in Guangzhou, China, to discuss the role of media in Philippine society with graduate students from multiple countries.
Students from China, Spain, Nigeria, Russia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Thailand asked about how the Philippine media shape public opinion, maintain press freedom, and navigate political influences.
The discussion also explored the relevance of print media in the digital and social media era. The session highlighted the students’ strong interest in understanding how Philippine media companies vet news, set policies, and remain influential in society and politics.
Prof. Dai Fan, a UP graduate and vice dean at Jinan University, presided over the session, emphasizing the importance of international dialogue on media practices.
