The Philippines and New Zealand are working to strengthen their bilateral relationship, following a phone conversation between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on April 10.
President Marcos described the discussion as meaningful, focusing on trade developments and continued cooperation for regional peace and prosperity.
Prime Minister Luxon echoed the sentiment, calling the Philippines a key partner in Southeast Asia and highlighting ongoing efforts to support free and fair trade.
The two countries are also advancing defense cooperation, having started negotiations in January for a Status of Visiting Forces Agreement.
As the Philippines and New Zealand approach the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026, their partnership continues to grow across trade, tourism, people-to-people ties, and security.
