Two newly built 3,200-ton corvettes from South Korea, BRP Diego Silang and BRP Miguel Malvar, are set to be delivered to the Philippine Navy next month as part of the country’s fleet modernization efforts.
The BRP Diego Silang was formally launched at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, with top Philippine military officials in attendance.
The warships, valued at P28 billion, are equipped with advanced radar systems, missile launchers, and anti-submarine capabilities.
Their arrival strengthens Philippine-South Korean defense ties, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the Korean War, where Filipino troops fought under the UN Command.
Additionally, the Philippines is finalizing a P40-billion deal to acquire 12 more light fighter aircraft from Korea to boost its air defense.
