President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. aims to establish the Philippines-European Union Free Trade Agreement (PH-EU FTA) by 2027, according to the Palace on Tuesday.
Negotiations for the agreement, which began in 2015 but stalled during former President Rodrigo Duterte’s tenure, are seen as crucial for enhancing trade ties between the Philippines and the EU.
Marcos, speaking at the European-Philippines Business Dialogue and European Investors’ Night, expressed optimism about finalizing negotiations by 2027 and highlighted the potential for advanced provisions in digital trade and intellectual property rights.
Discussions on the PH-EU FTA resumed in March during Marcos’ visit to Germany and the Czech Republic, where he also presented investment opportunities, particularly in infrastructure projects under the Build Better More program.
