The Philippines and Japan have signed an agreement for a Japanese grant aid of 444 million yen (P169.79 million) to establish an Open Radio Access Network (ORAN) at the University of the Philippines (UP).
The grant will support the creation of an Open RAN Laboratory at UP, equipped with hardware, software, and network components.
This laboratory will serve as a testing hub for Open RAN vendors across Southeast Asia, facilitating collaboration among mobile network operators, ICT vendors, government agencies, and educational institutions.
The initiative aims to promote open and disaggregated network technologies to strengthen the telecommunications sector.
UP has partnered with Japan and other organizations to bring the project to fruition.
