On Tuesday, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. shared his hope that the food stamp program would eventually end the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
During an interview with reporters at the launch of the program in Tondo Manila, Marcos was asked if the food stamp program could put an end to the 4Ps.
They spoke about the importance of the “Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program” (4Ps) in helping poor households in the country.
Marcos explained that the 4Ps would only be stopped if all the beneficiaries have jobs and can support their families on their own.
He explained that his main goal is to reduce poverty by the end of 2028.
The 4Ps, run by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), is a program that provides cash assistance to eligible households in need.
Meanwhile, the food stamp program aims to reduce hunger among low-income households by providing them with an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card loaded with food credits as monetary-based assistance.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development tried out the food stamp program with 50 families in Manila who are struggling to buy enough food, including pregnant women and moms who are breastfeeding.
The food stamp program, also known as FSP, aims to give families electronic vouchers worth P3,000 that they can use to buy specific food items from local stores approved by DSWD.
The main focus of this program is to help one million households from “Listahanan 3” who are considered food poor according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.
