President Marcos Jr. has approved a 3-month extension for the consolidation of public utility vehicles (PUVs) under the PUV modernization program. The new deadline is April 30, 2024.
This extension accommodates those who previously intended to join cooperatives but missed the earlier deadline. Transport Secretary Jaime Bautista recommended the extension to the President.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) confirmed they will follow Marcos’ directive and urged operators and drivers to take advantage of this opportunity.
Transport groups Piston and Manibela, who have been critical of the modernization plan, welcomed the extension as a victory for their efforts to protect public transport workers. They vowed to continue fighting for further improvements to the program.
