PASSENGERS RESCUED AFTER HOURS AT SEA IN BASILAN FERRY TRAGEDY

A survivor of the MV Trisha Kerstin 3 ferry disaster said the vessel capsized suddenly after a loud snap, throwing passengers into panic and leaving at least 18 people dead off the coast of Basilan.

Aquino Sajili said no crew members alerted passengers as the ferry began listing, forcing travelers to help each other put on life jackets and stay calm.

Survivors clung to debris and an overturned life raft for more than three hours before rescue vessels arrived, which Sajili described as an “unacceptable” delay.

He disputed claims of rough seas at the time of the sinking and said conditions worsened only after they had been stranded in the water.

Sajili said survivors are considering filing a lawsuit against Aleson Shipping Lines, citing alleged crew negligence and urging shipping companies to strictly follow safety obligations.
