The Pasig City government has distributed 160,000 hard hats to schools and learning centers to enhance earthquake preparedness, Mayor Vico Sotto said Wednesday.
The helmets will be placed in classrooms across K-12 schools, child development centers, the Special Children Education Institute, Pasig City Institute of Science and Technology, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig, and the city library.
Each classroom chair will have a matching hard hat to ensure all students are protected during drills or emergencies.
The hard hats were procured through public bidding at 154 pesos each, well below the initial estimate of over 300 pesos per unit, and meet Department of Labor and Employment quality standards, featuring release buckle whistles and reflectorized stickers.
Sotto described the initiative as both a disaster-preparedness project and an awareness-raising campaign, with the helmets remaining in classrooms for ongoing use.
