State weather bureau PAGASA has retired seven tropical cyclone names—Crising, Emong, Mirasol, Nando, Opong, Tino, and Uwan—after the destructive 2025 season.
The storms collectively killed 373 people, left 680 injured, 132 missing, and caused over ₱36 billion in damages.
PAGASA retires names when a cyclone causes at least 300 deaths or ₱1 billion in damage to prevent future confusion and sensitivity.
New names—Chico, Elias, Magyawan, Nilad, Omar, Tala, and Urbano—will replace the retired ones starting in 2029.
The decision reflects the exceptional scale of devastation from the 2025 weather disturbances.
