The Philippine government has allocated P3.2 billion for the expansion of the Pag-asa airport and the construction of a shelter port in Lawak Island, West Philippine Sea, to boost the country’s external defense capabilities.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) described the project as essential for enhancing logistical support and operational readiness in protecting national interests.
The expansion will improve the military’s ability to project forces in the region, aligning with the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept (CADC).
Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro emphasized that the CADC aims to secure not only Philippine land but also its exclusive economic zone.
Additionally, lawmakers hope the upgraded airport could support tourism, with comparisons to the Maldives, helping recover government investments.
