National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) officials denied any illegal organ donations at the hospital despite allegations linking a nurse to a kidney trafficking ring.
They emphasized the nurse had no access to organ donors and recipients due to his role.
The NKTI confirmed the nurse, Allan Ligaya, was identified by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) as involved in organ trafficking. Still, no disciplinary action has been taken as the NBI has not coordinated with the hospital.
Ligaya, who has worked at the NKTI for 23 years, denied the allegations and stated he had no involvement in the scheme.
The NKTI pledged cooperation with authorities if needed and highlighted the need to strengthen the deceased organ donation system to prevent illegal activities.
