The Office of the Ombudsman said Senator Robin Padilla failed to submit a counter-affidavit in an obstruction of justice complaint related to Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa’s escape from the Senate during an attempted arrest.
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said the case will proceed without Padilla’s response, while Senator Alan Peter Cayetano has already submitted his counter-affidavit and former Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Mao Aplasca was granted a 10-day extension.
The complaint, filed by Tindig Pilipinas, alleges that the respondents helped Dela Rosa evade authorities serving an International Criminal Court arrest warrant.
Padilla is accused of driving Dela Rosa out of the Senate, an allegation he has denied, insisting his actions were lawful.
Remulla said the Ombudsman will resolve the case based on the available evidence.
