OMBUDSMAN CONFIRMS TALKS WITH ICC ON WITNESS PROTECTION

Jesus Crispin Remulla confirmed he met with investigators from the International Criminal Court last year while serving as justice secretary to discuss the protection of Filipino witnesses in the crimes against humanity case against former president Rodrigo Duterte.

Remulla denied wrongdoing despite allegations from 18 supposed former Marines who accused him of graft and collusion, saying witness protection was necessary and calling for an investigation into the claims.

Meanwhile, Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. challenged Duterte’s lawyer Nicholas Kaufmann, to present proof of alleged vigilante killings under the Marcos administration, stressing that all deaths are being investigated by the police.

The accusations stem from affidavits submitted by lawyer Levi Baligod linking officials to supposed bribes and irregularities tied to the ICC case.

Authorities said the allegations are serious and subject to proper legal scrutiny.
