A group of overseas Filipino workers and PDP-Laban members has petitioned the Supreme Court to stop the implementation of online remote voting for overseas voters in the May 2025 elections.
Filed on April 3, the 122-page petition seeks a temporary restraining order against four Comelec resolutions that outline online voting procedures, arguing they violate the Election Automation Law and the Overseas Voting Act.
The petitioners claim online voting lacks transparency, bypasses manual vote verification, and undermines poll watchers’ ability to challenge irregularities.
Comelec plans to implement online voting in 77 out of 90 consular posts, with 19,000 voters pre-enrolled as of April 2.
The Supreme Court has yet to issue a ruling, while overseas online voting is set to begin on April 13.
