NFA RAISES PALAY BUYING PRICES TO SUPPORT FARMERS AMID RISING COSTS

The National Food Authority (NFA), under the Department of Agriculture, is planning to increase its buying prices for locally grown palay to help farmers cope with rising production costs.

The agency will set prices at ₱22 per kilo for wet palay and ₱27 per kilo for dry palay as part of efforts to ensure farmers remain profitable during the upcoming harvest season.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the move aims to establish a fair pricing benchmark while easing the impact of higher fuel and fertilizer costs.

NFA Administrator Larry Lacson added that the agency will be more aggressive in early procurement and is targeting higher rice inventory levels for the year.

The agency is also clearing warehouse space and managing stocks to prepare for the next harvest cycle and support ongoing rice programs.
