NEW P300-M SHRIMP PLANT TO BOOST CEBU’S AQUACULTURE AND EXPORTS

A new P300-million shrimp processing facility in Toledo City, Cebu, aims to boost local shrimp production, reduce imports, and prepare the Philippines to reenter export markets.

Operated by Gideon De Oro Seafood Corporation, the plant will initially process 200 tons of shrimp per month and employ 250–300 workers, prioritizing residents and offering part-time opportunities for women.

The facility features a 900-metric-ton cold storage unit, modern hygiene and traceability systems, and a one-megawatt solar system to lower electricity costs.

Export accreditation is expected next year for markets such as Japan, South Korea, and the United States, while domestic supply will support local restaurants and supermarkets.

By linking farms to the plant, the initiative aims to stabilize prices, support small-scale producers, and strengthen Western Cebu’s aquaculture economy.
