The Philippine Navy clarified Thursday that retired Marine Orly Guteza is not under the custody or protection of the Philippine Marine Corps, countering earlier claims by former lawmaker Mike Defensor.
Guteza, who retired on June 30, 2020, is acting in his personal capacity and no longer falls under the Navy’s authority.
After his retirement, Guteza was hired as a security aide by former Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co in December 2024.
Guteza previously testified before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, alleging that he delivered cash to Co and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, claims both lawmakers denied.
A Manila court later found his sworn statement falsified, and Guteza has not appeared publicly or responded to court summons related to the case.
