Two former police officers, Michael Guiang and Rommel Abuso, along with other suspects, are set to face murder charges for the killings of Pampanga beauty queen Geneva Lopez and her Israeli boyfriend Yitshak Cohen.
The motive for the crime, as revealed by the Philippine National Police (PNP), stemmed from a land dispute where Guiang had pawned land to Lopez but couldn’t repay the debt.
The couple was shot during a planned meeting, and their bodies were later found in a burned vehicle.
A key witness, initially involved in the crime, provided crucial information after deciding to cooperate with authorities.
Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos expressed dismay over the involvement of former police officers, emphasizing ongoing efforts to cleanse the PNP ranks.
