The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reaffirmed it will not support any military junta or “military-backed reset,” insisting its loyalty remains with the Constitution amid corruption issues confronting the administration.
AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla said there is no such plot within the active ranks and clarified that Sen. Panfilo Lacson’s alleged invitation came from retired personnel, whose views the military respects but does not act on.
Padilla added that the AFP is investigating any destabilization attempts, noting Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr.’s statement on active efforts to undermine the government.
Security officials warned that calls for a civilian-military junta pose serious risks to national stability, potentially harming the economy and investor confidence.
Meanwhile, groups like Bayan defended calls for the resignation of top officials as constitutional, while Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo confirmed she will support but not join the Trillion Peso March on Nov. 30.
