Intensified air and naval patrols are being prepared in Escoda Shoal to support the Philippine Coast Guard vessel BRP Teresa Magbanua, which was rammed multiple times by Chinese vessels last Saturday.
Philippine Navy spokesman Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad stated that while patrols are being increased, it does not necessarily mean deploying more assets but includes various forms of monitoring.
As of Sunday, Chinese vessels, including the Coast Guard, Navy, and maritime militia, were observed around the area.
The Philippines has officially lodged a complaint with China regarding the incident, while China claims the Philippine vessel acted aggressively.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo mentioned that Manila is considering its next steps but acknowledges the incident has worsened tensions.
