President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Judge Gener Gito, known for dismissing former senator Leila de Lima’s third drugs-related case, as an associate justice of the Sandiganbayan.
Alongside him, Mandaluyong Regional Trial Court Judge J. Ermin Ernest Louie Miguel has also been appointed to the position.
The appointment letters for both justices were signed by the President on October 8.
Gito will take over the role previously held by Oscar Herrera Jr., who has retired.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin forwarded their appointment papers to the Office of the Chief Justice on October 9.
