President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed five new undersecretaries to support Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon in cleaning up the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) amid the flood control corruption scandal.
The appointees—Arrey A. Perez, Arthur V. Bisnar, Charles T. Calima Jr., Ricardo P. Bernabe III, and Samuel Rufino J. Turgano—were sworn in by Dizon, who said more appointments, including assistant secretaries, are expected soon.
Dizon stressed that the new team will help secure thousands of documents and strengthen the filing of cases before the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) against officials and contractors behind ghost and substandard projects.
Meanwhile, Malacañang expressed confidence in the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ loyalty amid rumors of unrest, with AFP Chief Gen. Romeo Brawner assuring full support for Marcos’ anti-corruption campaign.
Several military and police associations also released manifestos backing the President’s reforms and crackdown on corruption.
